लौकिकन्यायः

अन्नपूर्णा रेड्डिगारि

'न्याय' इति शब्दस्य संस्कृते भारतीये भाषान्तरे वा विविधाः अर्थाः भवन्ति। एतस्मिन् अवसरे 'न्याय' शब्दस्य 'आप्तवाक्यम्' इति अस्माभिः स्वीकरणीयम्। अतः दैनन्दिने जीवने सर्वेषां ये अनुभवाः भवन्ति तेषां सारम् संगृह्य न्यायाः भावान् प्रकटयन्ति। न्यायेषु लोकधर्मिणः संग्राहकं तत्वम् अस्ति। अतः एते साधारणजनानां कृते अपि मार्गदर्शकाः बोधयन्ति।  अतः एतादृशाः न्यायाः लौकिकन्याय शब्देन कथ्यते।

सुन्दरपत्नीं प्राप्य एकस्य सुखम् आनन्दो वा भवति तादृशी मम नास्तीति अपरस्य दुःखम् असूया वा भवति। कस्याः अपि सपत्नी भवति चेत् दुःखं भवति। एवम् एकैव स्त्रीर बहूनां बहुविधानां भावनानाम् आश्रयः भवति इति अर्थः।

Meaning : Upon being bestowed with a beautiful woman as wife, a person may feel ecstatic and happy. Another person with the thought that he doesn’t have such a beautiful wife, can be envious and sad.  Thus a single factor, in this case a beautiful woman, can evoke different emotions among many individuals.

Application : This nyaya highlights the relative nature of worldly desires and the subsequent fulfilment. What gives immense pleasure to one may cause misery and sadness in the other.    The same factor can cause different emotions within the same person at different stages of life.

Through awareness and conscious observation, we may realize that the fulfilment derived from external factors is, but transient.
